What Is CBD?

CBD is short for "cannabidiol." It is one of the phytocannabinoids in cannabis, a natural plant which has been used as a medicine by indigenous people worldwide for a very long time. CBD is the non-psychoactive part of the cannabis plant and is legal in all 50 states as a result of the 2018 US Farm Bill, and in Canada as well. CBD is a non-prescription product that is becoming very visible in the marketplace today.

CBD is the major compound in the medicinal part of the plant.... and with some CBD providers, it is the only component of their products if they have reduced the plant to an isolate which is then added to an oil carrier. In order to get what is known as the "entourage effect" from a broad-spectrum plant, the other components CBG, CBN, CBC, as well as terpenes, anti-oxidents, flavonoids, and essential amino acids need to be included in the end product for maximum benefit.

Another high-heat method of obtaining CBD from the hemp plant is known as the distillation process. By using high temperatures, some of the value of individual components in the end product can be lost. AkashCBD products use a low-heat, continual processing method as the products are produced, thus retaining the full value of the entourage effect.

Phytocannabinoids can be used to supplement or replace chemicals inside our bodies, called endocannabinoids. When the nervous system or immune system do not work as intended because of endocannabinoid deficiency, phytocannabinoids used as supplements help with restoring the proper functionality of the central nervous system and the immune system.
